Most visitors to North Sardinia never leave the coastline. That’s good news for you: just a short drive inland from our B&B in Valledoria, you’ll find a completely different Sardinia, quiet granite villages, millennia of history, and some of the best wine in Italy. Here are the places we recommend to our guests.
1. Santa Maria Coghinas Bath therms Precious

2. Aggius

Don’t miss the MEOC Ethnographic Museum, which preserves the traditional life of Gallura with original artefacts and historic rooms. The old town, with its flower-covered lanes, feels like an open-air museum itself.
3. Valle della Luna
🚗 Near Aggius / TempioA surreal granite valley shaped by wind and rain — giant boulders, natural pools and lunar landscapes. It’s one of the best hiking spots in northern Sardinia, especially at sunrise or sunset. Easy trails make it accessible to everyone.
4. Perfugas
🚗 About 20 min from Casa NiRaA charming village in the Coghinas valley, home to the beautiful church of Santa Maria degli Angeli and the archaeological site of Punta de su Casteddu. Perfugas is also known for its excellent local restaurant scene — ask us for our favourite!
5. Sedini and the Domus de Janas
🚗 About 30 min from Casa NiRaSedini hides one of the most fascinating prehistoric sites in the area: the Domus de Janas (“fairy houses”) — rock-cut tombs carved into the tuff 5,000 years ago, some with false doors and carved decorations. A real journey back in time.
6. Lake Coghinas
🚗 About 25 min from Casa NiRaSardinia’s second-largest lake, surrounded by green hills and oleander trees. Ideal for a picnic, a swim away from the sea, or a sunset walk along the dam. The area also hosts the Casteldoria thermal baths — hot springs used since Roman times.
7. Berchidda: Wine Country Foodie Pick
🚗 About 35 min from Casa NiRaThe heart of Vermentino di Gallura DOCG production, with award-winning wineries offering tastings and tours. Combine it with a visit to nearby Calangianus, the cork capital of the world — yes, the cork in your wine bottle may well come from here.
8. Tempio Pausania
🚗 About 45 min from Casa NiRaThe historic capital of Gallura, built on granite with elegant piazzas and porticoed streets. Famous for its cork oak forests, its granite architecture and its cool mountain air — a wonderful escape on hot summer days.

What is there to do in North Sardinia besides beaches?
Plenty: prehistoric sites like the Domus de Janas in Sedini, granite villages such as Aggius and Nulvi, hiking in the Valle della Luna, wine tasting in Berchidda, Lake Coghinas and the Casteldoria thermal baths — all within an hour of Valledoria.
Where can I taste Vermentino wine near Valledoria?
The Berchidda and Gallura hills, about 35 minutes inland, are the home of Vermentino di Gallura DOCG. Many wineries welcome visitors for tastings — we can recommend and help you book.
Are the inland villages worth visiting in summer?
Yes — they’re cooler than the coast, less crowded, and often host evening festivals and sagre. A perfect combination: beach in the morning, village in the evening.
Can I visit these places without a car?
A car is recommended for the inland villages, as public transport is limited. From our B&B, parking is free and the roads are quiet and scenic.
